Bashley FC Fly Away
Press Release – 9 Aug 2017
Bashley Football Club travel to Northerners AC this Saturday for a first round match in the Hampshire Senior Cup. This is a cup tie with a difference, as Northerners AC play in the sunny island of Guernsey.
Northerners AC compete in the FNB Prixaulx League, the senior football league on the island of Guernsey, which also includes a team from the island of Alderney. The AC stands for Athletic Club and the Northerners have a history dating back to 1892.
The Bash squad will set off for Eastleigh airport early on Saturday to catch the plane for Guernsey. A 1:30pm kick-off ensures that the team will have enough time to get back afterwards for the last flight of the day. The game itself must be settled on the day by penalty kicks if necessary, should the scores be level after 90 minutes.
The Bailiwick of Guernsey lies 118 miles from Southampton, so the lads face a round trip of nearly 300 miles, including travel to and from airports.
