Bashley Ease into the Next Round

September 1st, 2019|

Bashley 3 Bridport 0 FA Vase The presence of both League Chairman gave an international feel to this cup tie between premier sides from the Wessex and Western Divisions. Bashley were first into their stride with Hugh Datum unlucky to see his crisp header from a free kick graze the bar. Bash continued to attack and this time, a Brad Strickland header from a Harry Morgan teasing corner went under the bar, to give the home side a seventh minute lead. Bridport were beginning to find their feet and the Bashley defensive line-up, already without the unavailable Lewis Ross, suffered [...]

A Tale of two Penalties

August 28th, 2019|

Bashley 1 Baffins Milton Rovers 1 (Baffins win 4-3 on penalties) Wessex League Cup This game was marred by the anti-respect behaviour of a Baffin’s player who was red carded during the interval. The game lacked cup-tie excitement and produced a stalemate result as Bashley’s consistent attacks through the middle and down the flanks were nullified by an extremely well drilled and hard tackling Baffins defence. The visitors opened the scoring in the fifth minute when Tyler Morley took advantage of a hesitant Bashley defence and the score was levelled just before halftime when Lewis Ross converted from the spot [...]

Bashley Bank five on Holiday Saturday

August 25th, 2019|

Amesbury 1 Bashley 5 Wessex Premier Bashley made hay with a five-goal spree despite the oxygen sapping sun that made running an act of will-power. The start, however, wasn’t an indicator of what was to come as Bashley were a goal down before their sun cream had dried after failing to clear a goalmouth cross converted by Jack Hopper that gifted Amesbury an early lead. It took a while for Bashley to settle although a well-directed, but cleared, 30 yd free kick from Conor Whiteley showed intent. This was emphasised when Lewis Ross powered from midfield only to have his [...]

Bashley Sail Back with a Hard-Earned Point

August 19th, 2019|

Cowes Sports 1 Bashley 1 Wessex Premier This was a somewhat disappointing result for Bashley who arrived with high hopes of a three-point plunder. Any thoughts, however, of easy pickings were quickly dispersed when Cowes scored from a corner within the opening minute when a ‘red jetlagged’ Bash defence gifted Ash Brett a free header. Minutes later, with the visitors still adjusting to their surroundings, Yachtsmen’s Gareth Bricknall was granted acres of space and with only the keeper to beat, shot wide. Then, on the sixth minute, Bashley drew level and the game became a contest. A deft pass from [...]

Gone with the Wind

August 11th, 2019|

Hamworthy United 3 Bashley 0 FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round Hamworthy’s County Ground Stadium, on the edge of Poole Harbour, took the full force of Saturday’s storms and Bashley’s chances of a FA Cup run were literally blown away. Bashley kicked off with the wind at their backs on an unusually dry 3G pitch which gave off puffs of rubber dust when trodden down liken to a racehorse on a dirt track. Good football was out of the question and Bashley found it hard to adjust their play to meet the extreme conditions. Jamie Webber and Ollie Smith were [...]

A hard earned three points

August 7th, 2019|

Bashley 2 Christchurch 1 Wessex Premier There was hardly time for the expectant crowd of 211 to settle before Christchurch were one up! In the first minute, Priory forced a corner which an unmarked Luke Stone dutifully headed home. A stung Bashley threw everything forward but failed to make an impression; the closest being a Brad Strickland attempt from a Jamie Webber assist that was easily saved. Moments later, Strickland was involved at the other end but thankfully the free kick resulting from his ‘one for the team’ foul was smartly saved by the diving Ollie Bull. Lewis Ross [...]
