No Walk-over for Bashley

Bashley 4 Colden Common Dev 1
Southampton Senior Cup Round 2

Bashley were taken all the way by a Colden Common Development Squad, surprisingly consisting of experienced senior players with an average age far greater than that of Bashley.

Jamie WebberDespite taking an early lead, when Hugh Datum took advantage of a rebound off the bar to head home from close range, the hard tackling and close marking of the Wyvern League visitors nullified Bashley’s passing game already hindered by a swirling wind of some force.

Bashley fared better playing against the wind in the second half and doubled their tally almost immediately when Dan Munday powered through from the halfway line to finish a fine solo goal. Jamie Webber came on for the Bash and immediately scored with a crisp shot after cutting in from the wing.

With still twenty minutes still to play the game came back to life when keeper Jason Collins failed to judge a high, wind-tossed cross that was then tapped in by the visitors. Colden’s come-back was short-lived when their over-competitive captain was shown red and it was Bashley who scored again when young Brogen Sims capitalised on his second, off the bench, first team experience by twist-heading a hard cross fashioned by some good footwork from debutant Michael Okubote.
