Bashley Under 18s started their leap into the unknown by holding established side Gosport to an 1-1 draw. With an under eighteen team that were mostly under seventeen and the disadvantage of just one outfield sub, when five are allowed, their task was made that much harder.

Brogen SimsThe first half was uneventful as the Bashley youngsters adjusted to the conditions with both keepers rarely in play. It was, therefore, a surprise when five minutes from halftime Gosport opened the scoring with a shot across the goal that found the far corner of the net.

Bashley found their feet in the second half and in the case of Brogen Sims, his head: ten minutes into the re-start he rose at the far post to head home an Adam Petty cross and record Bashley U18’s first ever league goal! The Bash youngsters were now working well together as a team and the game competitive and free-flowing with actions at both ends.

A lack of subs plus the hot sun was, however, beginning to take its toll and, with George Croucher, Lucas James and Zorro Skilton walking-wounded, it was a credit to the team that they held together to the end to open their league account with hard earned point.
