Bashley 3 Havant and Waterlooville 0
FA National League U19 Alliance (League Cup 1st Rd)
The home team, with four Bashley U18s in the starting eleven and two on the bench, opened brightly against their Conference Premier opponents and were one up in six minutes when Joe Hoey, younger brother of ex First Team favourite Jack Hoey, scored with a far post header.
Despite being well on top it took until the cusp of halftime before they doubled their lead when Toby Bailey took full advantage of a great cross by Tyler Mitchell to hook the ball into the net from the edge of the box.
The Hawks, who had pace and strength up front, were looking dangerous at the start of the second half until Leon Carbayo- Borges was released from the bench and quickly showed his class when latching onto a through ball and releasing a fizz of a shot that had only one destination.
Bashley were back in control and brought on young U18 players, Billy Cooper and Zoro Skilton for game match experience. The final accolade fell, however, to Bash goalie Joel Hirdle whose last-minute arm-stretching tip over the bar kept the Bashley sheet clean.
Bashley U19 have drawn Isthmian League Whyteleafe FC at home in the next round.
