(Whiteley 45′ Nicholls 61′ Sansom 74’og McGrath 89′) (Hawkins 53p’)
Hants Senior Cup Round 2
Tuesday September 17th
The game started with both team showing an intention to win, Bashley were quickly into gear and claimed the midfield but found the Folland goal-area a harder nut to crack.
The visitors on the other hand surprised with several fast breaks and Jason Collins in the home goal was by far the busiest keeper. It took until two minutes before halftime before Bash found the answer: a bruising charge by diminutive winger Harry Bunce brought escape from his large tormentors; set free, his pass found Conor Whiteley on the edge of the area whose hard-low drive looked destined for the net, but not in the way he intended, as his shot hit a defender and ballooned in over the head of keeper Sansom.
Harry Morgan came off at the interval to be replaced U18 midfielder Billy Cooper but before he could settle in, Folland were awarded a careless penalty which they duly converted.
Minutes later a probing Cooper corner found Jack Nicholls lurking at the far post and his penalty indiscretion was quickly forgotten as he soared high to head home.
Cooper’s corners were causing mayhem and a near post teaser was punched into his own net my the luckless Sansom. Bashley then brought on young George Croucher for his first senior appearance. George, the Youth Leagues leading scorer, looked at home immediately and it was his defence splitting pass that set Harry McGrath free to emphatically round the keeper and score a crowd-pleasing fourth goal.
