Bashley 4 Netley Centre Sports 0
Southampton Senior Cup Round 3
Bashley’s passage to the quarter-final of the Southampton Senior Cup was not made easy by a determined, hard-running Netley Central Sports who showed little respect for league difference. The Sports had Bashley on the back foot from the start and it took seven minutes before the home team had a first attempt at goal.
It was a sense of relief when, after thirty evenly fought minutes, Bash drew first blood when a measured forward pass from Brogen Sims found Dan Munday in full stride to collect and find the far corner of the net. Liam Farrugia replaced Tony Rolls at halftime and as the half-progressed U18 youngsters Josh Cook and Jonny Davis entering the fray.
Goals were in short supply, but this drought ended in the last fifteen minutes. Young Jamie Webber appeared to have put the game to bed when out-running a tiring defence he cut in, drew out the Netley keeper and shot home without a change of pace.
The Sports, however had other ideas and their captain Liam Nolan took advantage of a throw-in dispute to break-away and score with a sharp shot. Netley’s interest in a late equaliser was immediately deflated when Munday hassled a ball from a slow-to-clear defender and then danced round the keeper to claim his second goal.
As the curtain fell, Webber claimed his pair by putting the finishing touches to a well worked Bashley move leaving only time for a Harrison White bullet to hit the post and end the game.
